Babyface Receives Legacy Award and Shares Proud Parental Moment at Apollo Spring Benefit

Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, the acclaimed musician and producer, was honored with the inaugural legacy award at the Apollo Theater's annual spring benefit on June 11. Recognized for his influential career in music, Babyface received the award from Fat Joe during a memorable evening at the iconic Harlem venue.

In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Babyface, aged 65, reflected on his substantial contributions to the music industry and shared personal anecdotes involving his sons, Brandon and Dylan. "Having my sons tell me they're proud to be my sons—there's no better gift," he expressed, recounting a touching moment from the previous day when they visited the Walk of Fame together.

The musician also discussed the profound impact of his work not only globally but on his family, emphasizing the importance of legacy and pride. "To know that I've done something that made my kids proud, that's what we're here for," Babyface told the audience.

The event, which marked the theater's 90th anniversary, was also a major fundraiser for the Apollo, bringing in over $3 million. The benefit celebrated the theater's enduring legacy and its role as a cultural and economic hub in New York City. The evening featured performances from notable artists like Jordin Minerva, Karyn O'Reilly, Avery Harrington, and others, with Usher also receiving honors.

Babyface concluded his speech by expressing gratitude to all the attendees and supporters. "I'm so moved by this recognition, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart," he said.

The legacy award winner has penned and produced hits for renowned artists including Whitney Houston, Boyz II Men, Ariana Grande, and Mariah Carey. Following a successful start to his Las Vegas residency earlier in May, Babyface looks forward to returning to the stage later this year, promising more unforgettable performances.
